Advanced Trauma Case Consultations (Case-Based) 4 CEUs

Overview:

Working with trauma clients often presents complex clinical challenges that extend beyond foundational knowledge and standard interventions. Even experienced clinicians can encounter cases where progress stalls, symptoms persist, or client responses feel difficult to understand or navigate. In these moments, advanced case consultation and structured clinical thinking are essential to deepen insight, refine interventions, and improve outcomes.

In this case-based training, Dr. Zairys Feliz, Ph.D., LCSW, will guide participants through advanced trauma case consultations designed to strengthen clinical decision-making and intervention planning. Using real-world and composite cases, attendees will explore how trauma manifests across cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and physiological domains, and how to identify underlying and maintaining factors that impact treatment. Emphasis will be placed on applying trauma-informed and evidence-based frameworks—including principles drawn from approaches such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing—to conceptualize complex presentations and adjust interventions in real time.

Participants will engage in guided case analysis to examine common clinical challenges such as treatment resistance, emotional dysregulation, dissociation, and barriers to engagement. The training will focus on helping clinicians think critically, respond flexibly, and move beyond protocol-driven approaches when working with trauma. Attendees will leave with enhanced confidence in navigating difficult cases, refining treatment strategies, and making informed clinical decisions in trauma-focused work.

Objectives:

  • Analyze complex trauma cases to identify underlying and maintaining factors impacting treatment.

  • Apply trauma-informed and evidence-based frameworks to guide clinical decision-making.

  • Adapt interventions in response to client presentation, engagement, and treatment progress.
