Integrating Somatic Work Into Talk 3 CEUs

Overview:

Many clients enter therapy with symptoms such as anxiety, chronic stress, emotional overwhelm, or disconnection that are not fully resolved through cognitive or insight-based approaches alone. While traditional talk therapy focuses on thoughts and narratives, trauma and stress are also stored and expressed in the body, influencing how clients experience and respond to the world. Without integrating the body into treatment, clinicians may encounter limited progress, persistent dysregulation, or difficulty helping clients access and process deeper emotional material.

In this presentation, Dr. Zairys Feliz, Ph.D., LCSW, will guide participants in integrating somatic approaches into talk therapy to enhance clinical effectiveness and client outcomes. Attendees will explore the role of the nervous system, body awareness, and physiological regulation in emotional and behavioral functioning. Emphasis will be placed on practical, evidence-informed techniques—such as grounding, breathwork, and body-based awareness—that can be seamlessly incorporated into sessions without requiring full specialization in somatic modalities. Participants will learn how to help clients track bodily sensations, increase regulation, and safely process experiences in a way that supports both emotional insight and physiological balance.

Objectives:

  • Explain the role of the body and nervous system in emotional and behavioral responses.

  • Identify opportunities to integrate somatic interventions into talk therapy sessions.

  • Apply practical somatic techniques to support regulation and emotional processing in clients.

Scope and Limitations Disclosure

This course provides licensed mental health professionals with an overview of integrating somatic-informed approaches into talk therapy. Participants will learn practical, evidence-informed strategies to incorporate body-based awareness and regulation techniques into clinical work. While concepts informed by somatic and neuroscience-based approaches are discussed, this training does not provide certification in any specific somatic modality (e.g., somatic experiencing, sensorimotor psychotherapy) and is not a substitute for formal training in specialized somatic or trauma-focused treatments. Attendees are expected to apply the material within their professional scope of practice, ethical guidelines, and licensure requirements.

Financial and Commercial Disclosure

The presenter has no relevant financial relationships or conflicts of interest to disclose. Any references to therapeutic models, interventions, or resources are provided solely for educational purposes. Participants are not required to purchase any additional materials to complete this course.
