EFT Techniques for Individual Therapy 2 CEUs

Overview:

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is widely recognized for its effectiveness in couples work, yet its core principles and techniques can be powerfully applied in individual therapy to address emotional processing, attachment patterns, and relational distress. Many clinicians, however, are less familiar with how to adapt EFT interventions for individual clients, often defaulting to cognitive or behavioral approaches without fully accessing the client’s emotional experience. Without an emotion-focused framework, opportunities for deeper processing and lasting change may be missed.

In this presentation, Dr. Zairys Feliz, Ph.D., LCSW, will guide participants in applying EFT-informed techniques within individual therapy. Attendees will explore how to access, deepen, and process primary emotions, identify underlying attachment needs, and work with emotional blocks such as avoidance, suppression, and reactivity. The course will also address how to help clients understand and shift internal emotional patterns, including self-criticism and inner conflict, using an attachment-informed lens. Emphasis will be placed on practical, in-session interventions that move beyond insight to facilitate meaningful emotional change. Participants will leave with tools to integrate EFT principles into their individual work, enhancing emotional engagement, regulation, and therapeutic outcomes.

Objectives:

  • Identify core principles of Emotionally Focused Therapy and how they apply to individual clinical work.

  • Explain techniques for accessing and processing primary emotions and underlying attachment needs.

  • Apply practical EFT-informed interventions to support emotional awareness, regulation, and change in individual therapy.
