Attachment Styles in Adult Relationships (2 CEU's)
COUPLES, FAMILY & RELATIONSHIPS
Attachment Styles in Adult Relationships 2 CEUs
Overview:
Attachment patterns developed early in life continue to shape how individuals experience intimacy, conflict, and emotional regulation in adult relationships. Clients often present with recurring relational difficulties—such as fear of abandonment, emotional withdrawal, or heightened reactivity—without recognizing the underlying attachment dynamics driving these patterns. Without a clear understanding of attachment styles, clinicians may focus on surface-level behaviors rather than the deeper relational needs and vulnerabilities influencing client interactions.
In this presentation, Dr. Zairys Feliz, Ph.D., LCSW, will guide participants in understanding the role of attachment styles in adult relationships and their impact on emotional and relational functioning. Attendees will explore the core attachment patterns—secure, anxious, avoidant, and disorganized—and how these styles manifest in communication, conflict, and connection. The course will also address how attachment dynamics interact within couples, contributing to common cycles such as pursuer-distancer patterns. Emphasis will be placed on assessing attachment styles, recognizing these patterns in session, and applying practical, attachment-informed strategies to support emotional regulation, communication, and relationship stability. Participants will leave with tools to move beyond surface-level interventions and address the underlying drivers of relational distress.
Objectives:
Identify the primary attachment styles and how they manifest in adult relationships.
Explain how attachment dynamics influence communication, conflict patterns, and emotional regulation.
Apply practical, attachment-informed strategies to support healthier relational functioning in clinical practice.
Scope and Limitations Disclosure
This course provides licensed mental health professionals with an overview of attachment theory as it applies to adult relationships. Participants will learn to recognize attachment patterns and apply foundational strategies within their clinical work. While attachment-informed approaches are discussed, this training does not provide certification in specific attachment-based modalities (e.g., Emotionally Focused Therapy) and is not a substitute for advanced training in specialized relational interventions. Attendees are expected to apply the material within their professional scope of practice, ethical guidelines, and licensure requirements.
Financial and Commercial Disclosure
The presenter has no relevant financial relationships or conflicts of interest to disclose. Any references to therapeutic models, interventions, or resources are provided solely for educational purposes. Participants are not required to purchase any additional materials to complete this course.
