Co-Parenting Therapy: Tools & Boundaries 2 CEUs

Overview:

Co-parenting relationships are often characterized by ongoing conflict, unresolved relational dynamics, and competing priorities that directly impact children’s well-being. Clinicians working with co-parents must navigate high emotional reactivity, boundary violations, and complex communication patterns while maintaining neutrality and focusing on the needs of the child. Without clear structure and defined boundaries, sessions can quickly become unproductive, escalate conflict, or place the clinician in a triangulated position.

In this presentation, Dr. Zairys Feliz, Ph.D., LCSW, will guide participants in effectively supporting co-parenting relationships through structured interventions and clear boundary-setting. Attendees will explore common co-parenting challenges, including communication breakdown, role confusion, and the impact of unresolved conflict on children. The course will address strategies for maintaining neutrality, setting and enforcing boundaries in session, and redirecting conversations toward child-focused outcomes. Emphasis will be placed on practical tools to improve communication, reduce conflict, and support consistent co-parenting practices across households. Participants will leave with actionable strategies to manage high-conflict co-parenting dynamics while maintaining clinical clarity, ethical practice, and effective session structure.

Objectives:

  • Identify common challenges and patterns in co-parenting relationships that contribute to conflict and ineffective collaboration.

  • Explain strategies for maintaining therapist neutrality and establishing clear boundaries in co-parenting sessions.

  • Apply practical tools to improve communication, reduce conflict, and support child-focused co-parenting outcomes.
