Time Management & Emotional Labor in Therapy 2 CEUs

Overview:

Time management and emotional labor are critical yet often overlooked components of sustainable clinical practice. Therapists are not only responsible for managing full caseloads, documentation, and administrative demands, but also for holding emotional space for clients experiencing distress, trauma, and complex life challenges. Over time, the cumulative impact of these demands can lead to overwhelm, reduced effectiveness, and burnout if not addressed intentionally.

In this presentation, Dr. Zairys Feliz, Ph.D., LCSW, will guide participants in understanding the intersection of time management and emotional labor in therapy. Attendees will explore how clinical workload, scheduling practices, and administrative responsibilities interact with the emotional demands of therapeutic work. Emphasis will be placed on identifying signs of emotional depletion, understanding how emotional labor impacts clinical presence, and recognizing how poor time management can exacerbate burnout.

Participants will learn practical, evidence-informed strategies to structure their schedules, manage caseloads effectively, and regulate their emotional energy throughout the workday. This training will equip clinicians with tools to improve efficiency, maintain therapeutic effectiveness, and create a more sustainable balance between clinical responsibilities and personal well-being.

Objectives:

  • Analyze the relationship between time management, emotional labor, and burnout in clinical practice.

  • Identify signs of emotional depletion and inefficiencies in workload management.

  • Apply practical strategies to structure schedules, manage caseloads, and sustain emotional capacity.
