Therapy With Clients Experiencing Financial Stress (2 CEU's)
SPECIAL POPULATIONS & ISSUES
Therapy With Clients Experiencing Financial Stress 2 CEUs
Overview:
Financial stress is a significant and often underaddressed factor impacting clients’ mental health, relationships, and overall functioning. Concerns related to debt, job instability, income insecurity, and financial decision-making can contribute to anxiety, depression, shame, and chronic stress. Clients experiencing financial strain may also struggle with identity, self-worth, and relational conflict, making it essential for clinicians to understand the psychological impact of financial stress beyond surface-level concerns.
In this presentation, Dr. Zairys Feliz, Ph.D., LCSW, will guide participants in understanding and effectively working with clients experiencing financial stress. Attendees will explore the emotional, cognitive, and behavioral patterns associated with financial strain, including the role of shame, avoidance, and scarcity mindset. Emphasis will be placed on differentiating financial stress from broader mental health conditions, while recognizing how the two often interact.
Participants will learn practical, evidence-informed strategies to support clients in managing financial anxiety, improving coping and decision-making, and reducing shame associated with money-related challenges. This training will equip clinicians with tools to approach financial stress with sensitivity, cultural awareness, and clinical effectiveness, while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and scope of practice.
