Treating Burnout in Healthcare Professionals (2 CEU's)
SPECIAL POPULATIONS & ISSUES
Treating Burnout in Healthcare Professionals 2 CEUs
Overview:
Healthcare professionals are at heightened risk for burnout due to chronic workplace stress, high emotional demands, systemic pressures, and exposure to trauma and loss. Burnout in this population often presents as emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, reduced sense of accomplishment, and difficulty maintaining personal and professional boundaries. Without targeted clinical support, burnout can lead to impaired functioning, decreased quality of care, and significant mental health concerns.
In this presentation, Dr. Zairys Feliz, Ph.D., LCSW, will guide participants in understanding and treating burnout in healthcare professionals through a trauma-informed and systems-aware lens. Attendees will explore the unique stressors faced by this population, including moral distress, compassion fatigue, and organizational challenges. Emphasis will be placed on differentiating burnout from related conditions such as depression and secondary traumatic stress, as well as recognizing how systemic factors contribute to individual symptoms.
Participants will learn practical, evidence-informed strategies to help healthcare professionals restore emotional balance, rebuild a sense of meaning and efficacy, and develop sustainable coping and boundary-setting practices. This training will equip clinicians with tools to support resilience, reduce burnout symptoms, and address both individual and environmental contributors to distress in healthcare settings.
Objectives:
Analyze the psychological and systemic factors contributing to burnout in healthcare professionals.
Differentiate burnout from related conditions such as depression and secondary traumatic stress.
Apply evidence-informed strategies to support recovery, resilience, and boundary-setting.
